A Clean Energy Group with a Global Track Record

UPC formally established a presence in the North American market in 2002 with the formation of UPC Wind, LLC.  In the following 4 years, UPC developed, financed and constructed approximately 60MW of wind projects.  In 2006, UPC sold a majority stake in UPC Wind to Madison Dearborn and DE Shaw together developing a further 1,500MW of both wind and solar projects until the company, then renamed FirstWind, LLC, was ultimately sold to Sun Edison in 2014 for over $2.4 billion.

In the interim period, UPC made a strategic decision to enter into the North American solar development market with the establishment of UPC Solar, LLC in 2007.  Alongside several smaller projects in the US, UPC developed 20 utility scale projects with over 165MW of generating capacity in Ontario, Canada.  The projects were developed in partnership with Recurrent Energy (part of Canadian Solar) and UPC ultimately exited from these projects in 2013.

Consistent with its global strategy, UPC independently builds, owns and operates wind & solar development assets as an Indpendent Power Producer (IPP) and operates according to best in class standards.  UPC likewise has the capacity and track record in making strategic investments in innovative new technologies in the energy-tech space that can improve or augment performance of its development and operating assets.

UPC draws on its long history and experience in project development, contruction and operation combined with strong global relationships with leading development partners, financial institutions and manufacturers & technical service providers to develop world class wind & solar projects.
